]]> All of us have a basic and integral need for appreciation by other in life.   Otherwise we would all be hermits or at least solitary like the lives of most hamsters.

Yet when this need becomes too strong, over demanding or even pathological then it becomes an issue.

At hand may be your boss or supervisor.   If your boss has an overwhelming need to be “liked’ you can show that you do respect him or her , but that legitimate results are much more important to life , to the world and in this case to work and the organization than simple popularity.

At the end of the day when you leave the office , you are going to be the same person who entered in the morning.  Whom likes you and who does not – does it really matter to any great or greatest degree.  On top of that when you get down to it – much of what goes on in life and in the minds of others is serendipity that you have little control or influence over what so ever.

Yet you may get a superior that when you attempt to discuss this just stares off in space.

Talk about a lack of rationality of cause and effect.  You would think first of all you are at your place of employment for an income to feed yourself and your family , or perhaps gaining expertise and experience for a better or another job.

Yet the moron may just stare into deep space. Who knows why.  Do they consider you a peon who is beneath their discussion of the matter – that you and your view really don’t count ?
Or is this that they see such questions as a direct threat to their power and position – that you want their job and are “causing trouble “?  Or is it that they are a drunkard nursing over the last

hangover ?  Or is that they are just morons ?

The truth is its probably a combination of all of the above.

]]> There is more than one boss in the world left over with “childhood issues”  in their life and in their relationship with others.  Guess some bosses are just like everyone else.

These situations may cause you trouble – or it may be just be dormant something you see and note from time to time – to be aware of , and to take care but not really of any great pressing danger to you.

Everyone has their “hot button” or buttons so to speak of so this is nothing exceptional out of the blue .  Everyone has their package in life so to speak of – as long as it does not impinge you and your effectiveness at work. As for your “feelings’  big deal.  You are work to make a living and be productive – not for everyone else to be concerned about your ego.

The boss who manages for popularity usually has employees that feel ambivalent about their work, who are unsure of where they stand or even what their primary focus and tactics should be.

Experts have noted that these boss mindset types  ” tend to have so much subordinates who feel that they have little personal responsibility , that organizational procedures are not clear and that overall they have very little pride in their work”.

The chances of being a successful manager when your primary need is to be liked will be very slim indeed.  Hence be aware of these types and realize that their days of involvement as being your superior are slim indeed.

The problem is that they may have been hired , picked and groomed by similar types.  Hence don’t be surprised if your former boss – who overall did nothing , and accomplished little while making no tasks clear as priority functions  – gets promoted or even becomes company president.

Be nice and considerate to all.  It pays. At the worst stay out of trouble.

]]> True no doubt. Time management should revolve around dealing with people and other resources. Control your time and control your life so the refrain goes. That is assuming you or your team has some proper ( and not pathological) assessment of proper and good priorities in your life and which to run your lives by. And take out pathological ( alcoholic like mental demands for control over others) – that is a corollary of the “Rules are golden and they are my rules”.

Hence the flip side of time management is “plan your work and work your plan” along with “if you don’t know where you are going .. you are definitely going to end up somewhere else”. Or yet again to take the exact mirror un image “We are all beating the same drum.. marketing… ….”

Yet to do time management well you have to first start with yourself. Good management of the use of your own time and resources so to speak. Yet ask most of those in “management” what exactly is management and they will stare into space blindly – like Homer Simpson or John Mc Cain.

America is considered to be at the forefront of efficiently and effectively run businesses and organizations. It is hard to imagine what the rest of the world is run or not run like indeed.

Lord help mankind. We fear for its health and well being all.

The amazing part of the story ( or unknown and unappreciated at the time ) was that it was the Chicago mob with the Illinois electoral college votes who “got Jack Kennedy in” and thus expected more than favors and instead got the reverse

Amazing when one thinks of it – this should of been a warning of the apparent corruptness of Chicago politics

Yet American seemed not have learned or realized

You wonder whom pulled the strings behind Obama – is he just a mouthpiece for Soros ? Or what ?
He seems to be the most inept boss going – instead of harassing employees or ruining a firm with stupid ideas its a whole country

In such collectives, disability , illness and even anti-social behavior are tolerated as long as they are viewed as “family” or “insider” problems. For example many organizations have learnt to provide extremely progressive and expensive rehab rehabilitation programs for their employees while actively lobbying against providing similar benefits for “outside groups”. Similarly a retarded child or a schizophrenic adult who “belongs” to a community may be allowed to garner valuable resources devoted to his or her integration and treatment while those with the same problems but viewed as “outsiders” such as the mentally ill or homeless people are viewed as “subhuman”.

Many single women in today’s work force are trying to maintain a home while they work long hours outside the home – whether it be for Walmart of whoever – where they are told ” either smile or you are fired”. Not unlike working in a Soviet labor camp .

Despite all of their efforts to better themselves, they find that they cannot afford afford decent housing, food and medical care for their families. And yet they are constantly reminded that ” it could be worse”. Whether it be their boss demanding more, rewarding them for an unbalanced lifestyle , even demanding such or being told again and again that it could be worse. More downsizing . So and so is not with ” the firm”. Such and such an operation or office was transferred to god’s no where or to India or ot to China it goes on and on. Picking up the phone to call American Express ( Amex) the victim finds the phone answered by a person in India , who seems to know their job, within limits of understanding.

Yet it is the front line worker who bears the brunt of the challenges and changes , not the incompotent management – the ones who caused all or least most of this trouble in the first place. Rah , rah , rah . Number one . West is best. East is best . Rah rah rah. Here we are in the control tower….. Yet this group will go down holding their perks and air miles down to the last man. They may be this , they may be that but management will stick together like glue to maintain those air miles.
