Yet when this need becomes too strong, over demanding or even pathological then it becomes an issue.

At hand may be your boss or supervisor.   If your boss has an overwhelming need to be “liked’ you can show that you do respect him or her , but that legitimate results are much more important to life , to the world and in this case to work and the organization than simple popularity.

At the end of the day when you leave the office , you are going to be the same person who entered in the morning.  Whom likes you and who does not – does it really matter to any great or greatest degree.  On top of that when you get down to it – much of what goes on in life and in the minds of others is serendipity that you have little control or influence over what so ever.

Yet you may get a superior that when you attempt to discuss this just stares off in space.

Talk about a lack of rationality of cause and effect.  You would think first of all you are at your place of employment for an income to feed yourself and your family , or perhaps gaining expertise and experience for a better or another job.

Yet the moron may just stare into deep space. Who knows why.  Do they consider you a peon who is beneath their discussion of the matter – that you and your view really don’t count ?
Or is this that they see such questions as a direct threat to their power and position – that you want their job and are “causing trouble “?  Or is it that they are a drunkard nursing over the last

hangover ?  Or is that they are just morons ?

The truth is its probably a combination of all of the above.

This might be said it is akin to the victim of  a lynch mob being explained why he is hanging from the noose.  If it is readily apparent – good , if not the reason may be the event is occurring because their is no logical reason by any means , forms or rational explanation.   Yet the powers that be will go out of their way to make sense and rationality out an apparent non-rational even arbitrary choice or decision.  Ultimately it comes down to “It has been decided”

The example might be given of a test given in a standard form by a well known forensic psychologist.

The story is told and elaborated that at the  funeral of her mother a young lady meets a man of her dreams.  She has never met nor related to any person  by this means previously what so ever.  Two weeks later this young lady savagely murders her sister for no apparent reason.  What is the reason ?  Can you explain this – subjects being interviewed and assessed were asked.

The answer that those who were labelled psychopaths – indeed this may well be a very good test of  “management potential”  was that the girl killed her sister – because she knew at the funeral that she would meet that man or a similar personality yet again.

Somehow this makes great rational sense both in the mind of psycpaths  and past , present and future managers as well as those with “management potential”
