Watch out for the control factor – checking into your computer files , papers or if you have a company car – leave him for two minutes alone and you will see some wry all knowing smile “I see that you bought new postal stamps”. Never mind that it cost big time to have the jerkoff come to “work with you” and “motivate you”.

It can be said that the history of delegation no doubt is well documented as far back as the Book of Exodus in the Old Testament . After leading his people out of Egypt, Moses himself became a victim of the do-it-yourself myth indeed. Moses insisted on personally deciding and making the decisions of each and every controversy that arose among the “People of Israel”.

His father in law, Jethro , realized that Moses was suffering from a bad case of overcommitment, and recommended a plan for Moses, to be more effective. First educate the people in the “law” and secondly choose able men to act as rulers in more routine controversies.

This would effectively free Moses to allocate his time and energy on more important, long range and non-routine matters of governing and governance.

It can be said that in 2012 nothing is new or original no matter what your boss tells you or his mythology actually has him believe.

It is not unlike Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle in that you can either know the position of a molecule or its speed. For if you wish to know the exact position of the particle you will speed it up shining light or energy on it. Yet another way of explaining this quandary is to “Get with the program”.

A man received an email via Facebook from an old fling of years ago. The man had always held that relationship dear in his heart. The woman seemed to want to rekindle the past relationship and even though he explained to her several times that if you enjoyed an event or time before – say a vacation at a resort or Greek island – the advice of travel agents and seasoned travelers was “not to go back”. It could and would never be the same.

Yet the travel partner – or old flame persisted – and the willing victim – thought to himself – this is a good opportunity for a vacation and who knows what else? Hence a trip was rapidly arranged and paid for fully by said victim. Since the woman lived over 1000 miles away at present, in a most remote location a trip to a sun spot seemed a wise choice. A nice climate, last minute deals and accommodations could be arranged in a snap at budget rates – at the end of low season even better.

True it was no doubt a case of “enjoy the moment”. Yet from the time the fellow met the woman on the plane it was over. Person one was living in the past – she had stayed a most desirable and nubile young woman from the bar scene in her mind – whereas her potential travel partner had “gotten older and heavier”. The fellow was finished except for paying for this abusive individual’s full planned holiday complete with a new wardrobe of garbage Mexican clothes , her planned day trips non-stop, travels and visits to every dress , clothing and trinket shop that came in her path et al.

Yet in the end – the victim felt he got good value. He was able to recognize this situation as it was, the apparent abuse, the delusional character of both this individual, her self talk and self visualizations and indeed how her self centered impetuous behavior had indeed ruined, sabotaged and indeed would continue to sabotage her life leading her to nowhere but apparent ruin – and on the lookout for most victims and marks to fall for her routines and self seeking reprehensible behaviors.

In the end it is not a case of that “You can be right or you can be happy”.
Sometimes you can be both indeed.

That is assuming you or your team has some proper ( and not pathological) assessment of proper and good priorities in your life and which to run your lives by. And take out pathological ( alcoholic like mental demands for control over others) – that is a corollary of the “Rules are golden and they are my rules”.

Hence the flip side of time management is “plan your work and work your plan” along with “if you don’t know where you are going .. you are definitely going to end up somewhere else”. Or yet again to take the exact mirror un image “We are all beating the same drum.. marketing… ….”

Yet to do time management well you have to first start with yourself. Good management of the use of your own time and resources so to speak. Yet ask most of those in “management” what exactly is management and they will stare into space blindly – like Homer Simpson or John Mc Cain.

America is considered to be at the forefront of efficiently and effectively run businesses and organizations. It is hard to imagine what the rest of the world is run or not run like indeed.

Lord help mankind. We fear for its health and well being all.

Clueless – rah rah rah … we are proactive……  Yet the latest concepts ( paradigm shift)  most likely came from an article read with no depth of understanding what so ever , and no context from a magazine in business class , that the “boss read”  in executive business class, while having a few scotch whiskey, on the way for a “meeting”  to “discuss” with you the latest ideas and implementations from head office dealing with cost saving decisions , strategies and tactics decided at the latest “upper level management meetings’.

Worse yet its all taken with no depth of comprehension or understanding what so ever.  For example the lecture may be on that most workers / reps / salespeople under-utilize the greatest tools of efficiency – being typically – email , cell phones , pay phones telephones. Fine ok.

The next demanding conversation deals with “I am not used to people using the devices – phone , cell phones email etc”.   In other words we should keep busy regardless of end efficiencies and effectiveness proving how scared of me you are scurrying around driving from here to there – wasting time in traffic , at the parking lot etc etc etc.

What a waste of time and sheer stupidity !  No doubt about it.

]]> Change is not only never easy – it goes against the basic inertia of any workplace and in any sense of relationships – human or not.   Despite all the excitement that change and changes can bring to your working life and lives  – both good , bad and downright uncomfortable and even evil  – you no  doubt have all about the amount and degree of change that any human being or person can possibly handle.  However as change continues at its pace no doubt you will go through four different distinct phases in response to this “phenomonem”

1) Denial.  Deny ot. When change happens, the first invariable response  you have like the majority of people is downright denial. Shut your eyes , most likely it will go away.

This is not unreasonable.  It most cases it will.  Time heals all , and in most cases problems left unattended will diminish and even go away

2) Resist it. Resistance can be king.  However at some point , you may well realize that change is not just a random even clerical error.  However all in all this does not mean the you accept to the change and changes 100 %

3) Explore the change – maybe it is not all bad. Nothing is 100 % good or evil

4) Accept the change.  This is the final stage of change.  Ultimate acceptance.

The system and systemology is simple as all that.

Have a reserve set of capital.  Its your tax so to say.  Veteran broadcaster Bill Oreilly was taught by his father to put away 15 % of each and every paycheck automatically without question.
“It is your TAX”  the father taught.   This way you have a reserve fund that if the times or place is not your liking you can “shove off”  or at least have options in your mind rather than shaking like a neurotic poodle

If not then begin saving money and capital today to help see you through the next phase of “your career”.  If nothing else the job at “the new/ next place”  may be entry level than your current position.    Its no secret that many bosses you get in life may increase pay just to make it hard for employees to leave – or at the least highly inconvenient

People it seems in 2010 seem to live to their means – if not 10 to 25 % more.   You can thank credit cards for that

Pay and a lifestyle are highly seductive it seems

Once you move on – your reduction in pay will be only temporary.  Being happier ( and healthier mentally) in your new place you should rocket up the productivity and pay scales no doubt.

Keep and develop a resource source of funds and capital .  Its fairly basic and standard.

Take great heed in the belief that in the end remember that that “this too will pass”. While you may indeed feel trapped in a job that you really hate right now – at this moment in time – take comfort that you will not be in this situation or place for ever ( or so you dearly hope)

Ultimately you are in charge of your career. Thus you can begin your job and career search and searches immediately for something and someone – that can only be better even if a marginal improvement and a host of improvements

Keep you chin up and upwards – keep a most positive outlook. Once you leave and move on ( as no doubt in your mind you will and must) it all will fade back into the past into oblivion. One big nightmare to be forgotten post haste

And yet not only do most people survive on their jobsite – in spite of “management “  and “I am the boss “  syndrome

The amazing part is just like highly paid civil servants ( who are most cases are simply putting in time) , these authorities actually believe that

1) The world could certainly not survive without them and their input

2) Everyone else is a peon – and in the case of most civil servants – everyone else is a thief – who on top of it all are not worth their pay by any means

Yet how does a person cope – or even survive in a job that they do not like and perhaps even “hate”

Firstly focus on what you really want instead of daydreaming and working out in your mind’s eye of how much you want to escape or really not want to be in the “here and now”

No doubt about it you will have already established well that your job at present is not “where you really want to be”.  However where do you really want to be ? Plan your alternate road map and means of getting there. That should not be incredibly difficult.

Think back to that fateful job interview ( which was long tossed away once you were hired and became slave and victim # 1)

What are your strengths ?  What are your weaknesses  ?  Lastly the key “You look like a person to me that knows where they want to be !  Where do you want to be in 1 year , 2 years / 5 years ?”
Now those were your original plans .  Is it not time to refocus your efforts back to your game plan ?  Is this just not a temporary detour from your plans ?

Remember Einstein used a dull job as a Swiss patent clerk as the opportunity to be able to finish and polish his manuscript on the Theory of Relativity to good purpose.

Isn’t this such a similar , wonderful situation for you ?
In summary the glass can be half full or half empty depending on how you view it.  Simple as that.

The late Ronald Reagan had said that there is nothing more permanent than a government department or institution.  Once in place , it is a cancer that grows and grows.  Its about “spending your budget”.  After all if the budget is not spent it gets taken away.    Inefficiencies are of no concern – indeed they are rewarded with further increases in budgets for more staff and support – after all they are needed to improve things  .  Then due to the larger staff higher pay and benefits are needed for management – with all its enlarged responsibilities and of course for staff members at various levels – as it is necessary to keep “good people”.

America if you think that government can take care of you – lots of luck.  Government cannot even sell you a stamp in an efficient pleasant manner or reissue your drivers license , without you thinking that you are in a penitentiary with its prison grey walls and the staff are in no hurry to serve you – as you will there no doubt for a long time.
