]]> From time to time the role of management interaction on the sales floor , out on the sales territory, in the field or perhaps on the factory floor is asked for or about.  Its a puzzle.  Sometimes the answers given vary – positive beneficial effects , core integration ,  working with or coordinating with customers , fact finding , improving efficiency or morale , “interfacing”  , problem solving , core focus groups , “getting down to basics”  or “sticking with the knitting”, are given or bantered around as answers to this ongoing question of intrigue.

Yet if the answer was one of finding out what customers wanted or how they wished to be treated was the reason or answer – would not a simple phone call , email or question of the person out on the floor or in the field suffice ?  If it is to improve “morale”  , then why all the harassment of workers out on the floor, and of having to pretend that they really enjoy the whole procedure and event.   Sure it is fun like pulling teeth.  If is similar to your local dentist placing a neon sign on his business Dr. so and so dental clinic and “Fun Zone”

In the end it can be said that in the  end it is nothing more than power and a power trip.    It is all about teaching the underling “”who is boss” , putting them underfoot and underway ,  reminding them of the perks of management afforded to the superior and that they should “know their place” both in the pecking order of the firm or organization, while in the process obtaining air points and charge card visa / Amex/Mastercard premium points.

It is an amazing thing that most employees function in spite of these evil charades and downright foolishness.  What a bunch of morons these management types.   It makes the Hindu caste system look good .  At least the Hindu Caste system is benevolent to a great degree.

Figures do not lie “but liars figger”.  Look at poor Bernie Madoff as an example.  There is a case in point if one could ever be made of how numbers, figures , data and statistics are get confused and misused in the hands of ” experts” or more rightly described downright criminals.  Its not as if the financial industry is full of the most ethical people as well.  It can be justly said that most in the “financial “  or “securities”  have zero ( or little) conscious in any manner.   Its similar to the government official who comes to visit you ( or phones ) with the introduction ” I’m from the government I am here to help you”.

The problem becomes that most people are trusting.  At the worst they trust the data and information which they are given from alleged credible sources.  On top of that these industries are supposed to be tightly controlled and regulated by the agent of society – in this the government body the  The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).  After all if you got a phone call late one night from an individual who claimed , and was supported by a caller id number. that they were calling from the I.R.S. would you not beleive them and take them most seriosuly.

Such is the abuse of power , whether from management types , a governmental agent or Mr. Madoff .

]]> It is most interesting to note the family life of these management ?   types .   That is if they have a family life .  It may just be the case that ” a hole in any port “  is the best idea of any relationship to them.   It may have been said by your grandmother that  ” if they steal from others … they will steal from you.”  That is in the same way they treat employees on the job … never ever being able to realize that you get a lot more productivity and in the end result profit with honey and human kindness than with vinegar.  In the same way they treat their employees thus follow their interpersonal relationships.  Any relationships that they have may be based on raw power and I am the boss.  If that fails they may attempt to control other members in their group or family with other measures of power – such as money , and purchasing objects for them or even in extreme cases with allowances and provisions of dangerous drugs such as cocaine or narcotics.  The basis rules and procedures are not far off of a how a pimp treats their workers or prostitutes  although it may be said in many cases the pimp is a better overall manager and motivator than many managers in the workforce.   Pimps may not have such pathological  behaviors and forces running their lives.

The problems appeared that Mr. Sontheimer , the company mentor and powerhouse had forgotten the formula – or his specific management and marketing formula success for their specific firm – that was innovation and anticipating the needs of the market.

Management types are good at taking credit for what falls in their laps- what god gives them , but loathe to accept any criticisms – even if real and true. Rah , rah , rah – we are all rowing in the same boat – with directives from head office – or the upper floors – when they are clueless and being pablum fed safe data by yes men – who will hopefully , in their minds and fantasies , be in the same perk ridden positions.

And you wonder why General Motors went to hell in a handbasket.
