]]> An interesting case in point.  A still most avid go getter all his life senior citizen of 75 years of age recently had his 100 old mother in hospital.

First of all if not for the son the mother – an old “farm woman” who had worked with great responsibility and responsibilities in her life in the business world – when these “jobs were reserved for men only”  would of starved on the food rations and the plastic coverings over them in the hospital.

The “staff”  was just so efficient at removing trays with food, as per the system , like clockwork.

Had the son not been there – first of all the mother did not know how to take the protective (?) wrap off.  Second the food  it itself was in substandard starvation size – as per the “book ” and “manual”.   The mother  all her life had eaten great quantities of caloric intake and to this point had never been overweight or heavy in weight.  If not for the son – first to take the protective plastic wrapping off – the mother’s vision was not good,  and for the doting son to bring in her in many Mc Donalds hamburgers and fries – who knows what would of occured.

Yet the graphs and charts of acitivies and productivity on the “ward”  were always on the upswing.

Lord help us all.

After all , business for most is bad if not terrible.  Its never a fault of upper management.  After all their perks are sacrosanct and given by the creator him or herself.

Many companies are showing increased bottom lines.  Yet when financial analysts , evaluate the stock market and business data it seems, that it is not as a result of increased sales , or new product releases onto the marketplace but rather mainly due to staff and staffing reductions

Less people to pay on the office , factory or sales floor , hence revenue minus lower expenses yields a greater bottom line.

Wonderful – if you follow this logic GM and Chrysler must have the greatest management in the world whereas in essence while the bottom line increased steadily on the color graphs and charts the company was cannibalized , new product development and research halted , production reduced , and the best and most experienced staff let go.

If they were working for the company , rather than being on pension at least the firm would get some value for their money.  What is left , if any staff are a bunch of  innocuous   ( to upper management ) “yes men”

Regardless of reality if you are lucky enough to attend the “moonie session”  be prepared , regardless of the wordy themes ( building bridges with staff / suppliers , enhanced service levels in 2010,  our customers are our future , our staff is most important to our success etc etc) be prepared to a session on “in 2010 you are Going to HAVE TO LEARN TO JUGGLE !”

With a scooping motion from outside to inside, toss the scarf.  It should go across the center line and peak about 8 inches above your head on the opposite side from which you threw it.

Catch it in your subordinate hand with your palm down.

poor treatment by the agents of society and management.  “My job is to manage”.   Yet when asked few in these position can explain what this means other than “I am the manager”  and similar mantras.    When applying what might be considered downright foolish behavior – such as the “we know routine “  or pointing to graphs and charts on the wall where the rules are one sided if not indeed stacked and informing victims that “I am just doing my job”.   Similar answers and mentalities could be expected of border guards or policemen / women issuing tickets at a speed trap whose only purpose is that of revenue collection – little else.

It can be best said that if a women does rise to management then their attempts to be firm or forthright
with male employees may be more than difficult.   Employers have traditionally paid women less than women as “men have to raise a family”.  How that logic and argument does not apply to single parent households where the mother is the provider and wage earner is somewhat elusive.
