]]> And yet another life instructing event in the high tech hospital , high end systems / management  base camp.

The son – caring for his elderly 100 year old mother in hospital – was complaining to a friend about attempts by staff on the ward to have the mother “paneled”  to place her in a “nursing home”.  First of all things were fine as they were -  I won’t go into what landed her in the hospital but it had nothing to do with care at home.

The mother was a “farm woman”  whom was most happy in her surroundings – there was some Alzheimer type dementia by now – but it was sporadic

The mother was most happy at home , among her cats and dogs – the small dog protected her fiercely.

Put in a nursing home – the professionals would of devalued her “quality of life”  .

On top of that they were basically giving her a death sentence.

Yet they were determined and insistent none they less – they like good socialists and President Obama new what was better for you – than you do.

A move to the nursing home would basically of been a death sentence for this poor soul.

For sure they most likely were going to have a high end symposium conference with state of the art speakers – or perhaps an internet conference call conference on “QOL ” that is Quality of Life – its importance in treatment plans , and its measurements .

]]> An apparently most important point and concept that often gets forgotten or waylaid in the writing of these important “memos “  to the troops is to always explain and mention the reason or reasons for said memo.

This might be said it is akin to the victim of  a lynch mob being explained why he is hanging from the noose.  If it is readily apparent – good , if not the reason may be the event is occurring because their is no logical reason by any means , forms or rational explanation.   Yet the powers that be will go out of their way to make sense and rationality out an apparent non-rational even arbitrary choice or decision.  Ultimately it comes down to “It has been decided”

The example might be given of a test given in a standard form by a well known forensic psychologist.

The story is told and elaborated that at the  funeral of her mother a young lady meets a man of her dreams.  She has never met nor related to any person  by this means previously what so ever.  Two weeks later this young lady savagely murders her sister for no apparent reason.  What is the reason ?  Can you explain this – subjects being interviewed and assessed were asked.

The answer that those who were labelled psychopaths – indeed this may well be a very good test of  “management potential”  was that the girl killed her sister – because she knew at the funeral that she would meet that man or a similar personality yet again.

Somehow this makes great rational sense both in the mind of psycpaths  and past , present and future managers as well as those with “management potential”

]]> America’s  current economic woes did not come out of thin air. Its not only a matter and question of economics , interest rates , banks and the bailout and tarp funds.  It goes much deeper and was a long time coming.

Take for example this auto magazine article – or a mild press release , published in Oct 1992 dealing with  BMW’s announcement to open its American factory in North Carolina.  You have to remember that this is a highly subsidized announcement -  each state made great pitches , offers and tax saving inducements to the firm , to relocate ( move from where Germany ?), to the chosen US state.  Its more than amazing at how much is spent on these deals , whether it was in North Carolina or the Southern US states to build what are in effect “Screwdriver Plants”.

The greatest amount of value added is in the home country – be it Japan for Toyota or Nissan , or in this case Germany for BMW.  The really high paying jobs and skills are offshore , not in China at low dollars but rather back at “Head Office”.  Its only the mundane low paying jobs so to speak that are offered , after all of these great subsidies.  When one figures out the cost per worker, including all subsidies , to the American taxpayers you have to wonder if it would not just of been better to have paid the workers – or assemblers – just to stay home or go duck hunting.

Interesting – hidden in the middle of the press release gushing article – inside the paragraph dealing as to why BMW execs choose North Carolina over others ,  “not the least was easy access to air, rail, and highway routes , is the statement “And while initially up to 80 % of the components will be imported from Germany…… there is a good possibility ( although not probability) , that some type ( not types), of manufacturing capability ( not plural), may be added in the future.

And you think that your boss is a moron.

On eBay its the sellers who carry the load and pay the tariff – not the buyers by any chance

Listing fees , “final value sale fees”  and then a PayPal fee / tax of approximately 4 %

eBay regularly issues updates and edicts to the sellers all tied into 1984 type language of how “we are here to help you”

It apparently target markets new upcoming product revisions and systems extensively – the committees  must be deaf , dumb and plain or just plain misinformed and misdirected

Two examples

1) Good news to enhance “transparency”  sellers can now only leave positive or no feedback at all whereas the buyer

has the choice of bidding , buying or not trusting a vendor .  The seller has no such powers

Yet the buyer can hit the seller with negative feedback

Apparently some sellers were using threat of negative feedback to force or coerce buyers to  pay up for what they purchased on .   Horrors.

2) Recently to enhance the process of non paying bidders , ebay came up with a new streamlined strategy – The Unpaid Item  Policy”

Great

Only one problem – the time limit has been conveniently reduced ( quietly) from 45 to 32 days

10 days not to be paid

10 days for the buyer to promise to pay while you wait.  If the seller is overly aggressive in requesting payment promptly   they may receive a negative comment from the buyer who has not honored their committments

lastly if the seller is dragged on further by the buyer – soon its too late to make the claim

Remember these rules and procedures are all there to help you

You can bet on one thing , eBay will always take its cut regardless right off the top

The seller is left to wonder is this all worth the effort of it all

Ebay can serve as a model of business , your boss and how the same people who ran the old pre-internet “bricks and mortar ” economy into the ground , are now back firmly and place and most likely your new boss or supervisor.

First the whole exercise sounds rather sterile , even more than elitist, coupled with Nazi like understandings of an issue similar to the concept of “The Jews are Our Misfortune”.

What might this list be in terms of employee satisfaction alternatives :

1) Increase salaries ( bad for profit levels)

2) Improve working environment and environments – again not good for bottom line profit  levels and more importantly it reduced the perceived value of the “perks”  given to management in relation to the peons doing the work and bringing home the “bacon”

“Perks of management”  have been defined and described by some as anything given to management for free that can not really be justified financially or by any other means.

Its all in relation to who has what.  Not unlike men comparing the size of the penises of the hard drives on their laptop computers.

What  a bunch of morons.  In the end the assignment will be to conduct and employee satisfaction survey or survey and both ignore any results and information obtained while penalizing and deriding any “wrong answers”.

It all comes down to plain foolishness and downright stupidity.  “I’m the boss”.

Get a boss who is a young stud – a drinker , a womanizer , one who looks to screw any potential female ( or who knows what ) no matter that she may be a major client’s daughter or whatever and all you will get are financial rewards as the only measure of incentive.  Worse yet explain , or try to explain to these types that there are alternatives , and the concept of flexibility – and this may well , or always be regarded as a threat to their management status or that you are a poor employee.  “I think that you don’t like money”  was the refrain barked out to a new young father who tried to escape the world’s stupidest project dreamed up while the boss was corked on a Friday afternoon.

The comedy was that the boss had been set up by the employee at a client’s office to keep him busy and out of trouble .

One of the influential clients at hand at the spectacle remarked “He sure thinks a lot of himself”

Another pointed out “Pour a couple of drinks ( many in this case , far too many) , and watch what happens.

True the tools do change but the uses and the problems or situations they solve remain the same. For example most people use their powerful computer (Core2 duo 8 million Gigs etc etc etc) , as little more than furniture or most proudly as “Solitaire Machines”.The vast majority of the rest do simple email , with such foolish and security desperate hacked programs as “Outlook Express”.

It the same and similar with management. Each claims that a new idea is 100 % theirs or at the best / worst the application of the principles of the program are “entirely theirs”. On the other side if the program fails you can bet your bottom dollar that no one will be there to talk credit and responsibility except a “faceless committee” of which non of the former self proclaimed stalwarts held any authority or sway.

“I was just a small man”…. “I was just following company procedure / procedures / emails / edicts ” etc etc etc .

Your remain the same person that you were with or without their approval.  Their approval or pat on your head (or threats ) mean little.  You were the same person regardless – the same person who woke up in the morning ,who got in the car or bus.   Your intrinsic value remains the same regardless.  Resist the magic swoop of logic that somehow the minute you don’t fall to their wishes , or miss a production , sales or other corporate ( top floor ) target you are somewhow of less value as a human being .  Magic ( and most faulty logic).  Have them look in the mirror.  How on earth does missing one arbritrary target of their make you any less of a human being.

In many ways it comes down to control issues on their part – pathological on their part.  If anyone has problems it is them . Look in the mirror.  Look at your own order book sonny.
