]]> Motivation and employee motivations. Most employees are actually fairly simple thinkers , straight shooters.

Contrast to the type of thinking of most who go into fields of management and “management sciences”.   Schemers , and downright pathological social deviants.  Who can they beat – everything in life is a contest.  How can they get something for free almost to the point of being proud and glad if they hurt someone and injure or derail their lives.

Yet most employees , usually are looking for the benefit of their respective firms,  whereas many in the management fields are the type that if they find a good deal somewhere or a good workman will go out fo their way not to share this information as deep down ( or even not to deep) , they are in competition with everyone and anyone .  They might inadvertently tell a close friend ( when they are on the upswing not before ) , “Isn’t that how “we “  keep score , as if life is one big game of them against the world , and they must “beat”  or “crush” everyone else.

The social deviancy is not that “We all win” ,  “We all do well toge tether” , its that “I must win at all costs”  and that “There can only be one winner”.  If you win , then I must lose.   Couple this with a pathological fear of failure and you have most bosses.

]]> It can often be the situation – that bringing in an outside expert can hurt more than help.  Hinder more than any way help.  It has been oft quoted than an expert is any one 50 – 75 miles away from home. In these days of rapid transport – that is a small commute.  Luckily the high cost of gasoline may deal with this plague.

At least the scourge and abuse of high gas prices has one benefit – perhaps less intimidation and abuse of visiting privileges by management and “outside consultants”.   Perhaps now before they get in the car they will think of the cost of gas before they drive.  That is unless they have the perks of a company car and gas card.  Then it may be of their benefit to use the card to show their power ( entitlement)  and just as importantly dilute their own personal mileage.

A perk of management can well be said to be anything in the realm of management payment and rewards that cannot be justified.

]]> Of course any job – whether monotonous or exciting – serves God if we do it. But even ass we are consciously trying to glorify god in our work and daily jobs repetitious jobs may bore us because they offer no mental challenge what so ever. The worker on an assembly line operates as an automatic pilot collecting a pay check and paying his or her mortgage. Let them export these jobs as outsourcing to China or India. Never the less , you can always take what is the worst aspect of your job humdrum and turn it into a benefit. Lemons into lemonade. Take advantage of those eight hours a day when your mind runs idle. Those hours can do double duty for you. You can get paid for your physical labor or presence on the job while engaging in your own mental pursuits.
