Interview Blunders – It may be most important to take cues of when not to be hired by a future boss

Interview Blunders
As if you did not have enough trouble with bosses – it all starts at the interview or interview.
Little things for little minds. It’s like a dietitian who is rigidly following what she or he was taught by their teachers who were rigid in themselves following what might have been the accepted dogma in 1912.
Try to explain anything or have a discussion about your health ( or in this case of a job interview concerns leading to your future mental health ), and voila its like you are , in actuality you are dealing with a 2 year old with anal retention issues.
Lack of any depth in any discussion. If there is any knowledge its snippets taken out of context and given great weight.
It’s all very similar to what you can expect in the future- “we know”, “head office “, “we have the postmark” ……
Still if there are any mistakes that you can imitate in the interview process they might include
1) Lack of preparation – or perhaps over preparation. Rather than being seen as an asset to the firm you may well be treated as a threat to the firm or organization (specifically to the interviewer or party in power). A smart ass.
2) Dressing inappropriately – or dressing “better” or with better taste than the interviewer or boss
3) Poor communication skills – or perhaps proper communication skills. If your gut or your grandmother sends out warning signs or notes warning signs run away as fast as you possibly can. Steer a clear course of them
4) Asking too many questions. You are expected somehow to ask – if you do not ask then somehow “the book” says that this is a bad sign. However if you ask reasonable and proper questions – then instead of being seen as an asset you are seen as a problem, a troublemaker.
What a bunch of morons

Wonderfull Management in the American Auto Industry at Chrysler – More of the Same
No comments · Posted by admin in Uncategorized
Chrysler LLC is discouraging white-collar employees from applying for jobs at former parent Daimler AG or its Chrysler Financial unit in a bid to keep jittery workers from leaving the automaker during its transition under a new owner and a new chief executive.Requests to interview for positions at Chrysler Financial and other Daimler units, including Mercedes-Benz USA, “are currently not advised,” Rita C. Rinner, Chrysler’s manager of global staff, wrote to senior Chrysler employees Monday in an e-mail obtained by The Detroit News. “Any exceptions must receive prior approval and should be channeled through HR.”
While the note was sent to senior-level employees and aimed primarily at them, the directive applies to all white-collar employees and their staffs.
The move came the same day new parent Cerberus Capital Management LP announced it had named former Home Depot chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli chairman and CEO of Chrysler, replacing Tom LaSorda, who will remain as president and become vice chairman. Cerberus’s $7.4 billion purchase of Chrysler was finalized Friday.
Nardelli is known for aggressive cost cutting and has vowed to quickly improve efficiency at Chrysler. His hiring has prompted nervousness among some employees, who took note of his record of cutbacks at Home Depot and General Electric Co. Nardelli earned his management stripes at GE, then moved to Home Depot after losing out on the top job at GE.
Chrysler spokesman Jason Vines said the “moratorium” is temporary and motivated by Chrysler’s status as a company in transition.
“Hold still,” he said. “We have a lot of other things to worry about. We are a new company with a new boss. Let’s get through the next few months.”
Dave Elshoff, another Chrysler spokesman, said the memo was aimed largely at people in the financial and accounting departments at Chrysler. “The idea is to build some stability while we are in a transition period,” Elshoff said. The move is to “hold them to their current responsibilities until we get through the beginning of the new Chrysler.”
The e-mail said exceptions to the policy could be made “when there is a good business reason to do so,” such as when a department must cut a job and an employee wants to leave. Also, employees “not succeeding in their current assignment” could pursue a job that “is a better fit” at Daimler or Chrysler Financial, Rinner wrote.
The transition is moving quickly at Chrysler.
Nardelli will take LaSorda’s old office at the top of Auburn Hills headquarters. LaSorda will move into the office of Eric Ridenhour, who was chief operating officer until he resigned Friday.
Nardelli returned to a family vacation in Mexico after the announcement Monday. LaSorda had delayed the start of a vacation in California meant to celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary. Both will be back at work next week.
On Monday, Chrysler also announced it had promoted a long-time financial employee, Ronald Kolka, to chief financial officer. Chrysler has made accounting and cash management a key priority under Cerberus. LaSorda said Monday that the firm instituted “daily cash” accounting after Cerberus announced it had agreed to buy 80.1 percent of Chrysler in May.
Daimler, said spokesman Han Tjan, had no policy barring Chrysler staff from applying for jobs. “We don’t have a policy of discriminating,” he said. “We try to get the most suitable employee.” Daimler, which retains 19.9 percent ownership in Chrysler LLC, wants to maintain a “collegial” relationship with Chrysler, Tjan said.
“From a collegiality standpoint, you wouldn’t try to poach key people from each other, but I think everybody would look for a mutual solution” if someone wanted to move from one company to the other, Tjan said.
Human resources experts questioned whether Chrysler would be able to enforce its requirement that employees seek prior approval.
Dave Ulrich, a business professor at the University of Michigan, said the memo could lead to good employees leaving. “What they need to do is create a clear process for dealing with all employees,” Ulrich said. “In the face of employment ambiguity, bad thing happen. The best employees who have choices elsewhere, leave and take jobs with another firm.”
“It behooves leaders to design a clear process for jobs and to communicate and then over-communicate what is happening to employees. If talented employees walk out the door, Chrysler is in trouble.”

Get Out There and Work or You Won’t Have a Job

“The camps of the Huns enjoyed a spirited life with pronounced fluctuations in joy and sorrow. Victory brought about joy, sounds of celebration and ephemeral feelings of security . The death ( firings , downsizing), of warriors , periods of diminished supplies ( our recent economic crisis lending, mortgage crisis , oil and gas prices etc) and tribal struggles ( struggles at the top , mergers , corporate upper echelon management infighting and backstabbing”, brought on sorrow and despair

Does this sound eerily like your workplace or office – especially during “training ” or “meeting ” sessions.
It was once remarked and noted by an experienced salesman at one such event – “I have been with many outfits . Its all the same . They are all the same. They bring you to nice digs out in the middle of nowhere ( control issues , to isolate employees to have their full undivided attention) , they feed you well , pour great amount of liquor down your throats.
Yet in the end it is always the same message :Get out there on your asses or work or you won’t have a job !”

And you wonder why the North American economy is in such trouble ?
It continues to be an amazement that in comparison to most of the rest of the world America is looked up to as the model of efficiency and effectiveness – productivity that most other places in the world can only look up to and emulate. It reminds one of Winston Churchill’s remark that “Democracy is the worst form of government by far…. except for the others”.
If what we all put up with in terms of doing our jobs in spite of management , red tape and government bureaucrats who just smile , implement “strict privacy laws” which seem to have great penalties – but are only applied to taxpayers and citizens – while not being applied in any measure to the day to day activities of those same departments.
Appeal treatment , you may get reams of policy statements , your rights as a taxpayer , ratepayer etc etc, yet the agencies have “Ombudsman” to deal with such issues. Yet these individuals are part of the whole same system , who want to stay out of the limelight , keep their budgets and obtain their valued promotions and raises. It seems they can not be counted on any in any manner to step out of line and do ” the right thing” Its all one giant game .

The following questions may well help you to identify sacred cows or “the sacred cows” in your organization or workplace setting.
Wikipedia defines sacred cow as “The term sacred cow has passed into the English language to mean an object or practice which is considered immune from criticism, especially unreasonably so.[1][2] The phrase is based on a popular understanding of the status of cows as ‘sacred’ in some Asian religions.”

Sacred cow
From the Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can change
In the relgion of Hinduism, the animal called a “cow” is thought to be sacred, or very holy. Most Hindus respect the cow for her gentle nature which represents the main teaching of Hinduism, non-injury (ahimsa). The cow also represents ghee and strength . Hindus do not worship the cow, but the cow is very honored in society, and most Hindus do not eat beef (the meat that come from cows). By honoring this gentle animal (living thing that isn’t a plant) that gives more than it takes, Hindus honor all creatures.

It is not known whether the cow was sacred and forbidden in the Hindu diet from ancient Vedic times. However, reverence for cows can be found in all the religion’s major texts.

The cow gives milk and cream, yogurt and cheese, butter and ice cream, ghee and buttermilk. The milk of a cow is believed to refine a person. The ghee (clarified butter) from the milk is used in ceremonies and in preparing religious food. Cow dung is used as fertilizer, as a fuel and as a disinfectant in homes. Modern science states that the smoke from cow dung is a powerful disinfectant and is good against pollution. The cow’s urine is also used for religious ceremonies as well as for medical reasons.”

It is best to start off by identifying the “cows”, but at the moment don’t rush headlong into trying to herd the cows , chase them away or even deprive them of food , nutrition ( cash salary). For example the ritual of going through “junk mail “ or “spam” was one person’s self acknowledged sacred cow
A procedural list for sacred cows
1) List any systems , procedures. policies or habits that are outdated and that can be changed
note - the worst organizations often have the best procedures and procedure manuals. They have little else to do. The prosperous , upgoing companies are often on the fly “doing work”. They have no time to revamp systems. There is productive work to do. Yet their systems are often hodge podge and ramshackle -leaving new employees confused. Some “management type: often has to take them down the right of inconsistencies and simply tell them ” It makes no sense but this is how its done”.
2) What are the aspects of the jobs that you like the least , that are seen as “a drag” or “drags” and wear you and other employees or seem like ‘busywork”
3)Which of any of the sacred cows are policies and procedures inherited from predecessors or idiot former managers ( some of which may be ceo’s at present)
4) Sacred cows which come courtesy of another department but can never be challenged due to “turf” and “control “ issues. You would think that you are working for different firms or at the least are on another planet. What a bunch of stupidiyt.
5) If you can visualize yourself going through a typical day , week, month or even year is there a list of routines at the office. Mail comes in such a time , person c takes it from desk to desk. It can never be done any other way or panic sets in . Sounds familiar. Why not break these routines – at least for fun
If you think if a comedy group – second city , Saturday night live - were to attend most businesses and organizations they would have more fodder for material than they could handle in a lifetime – all with these sacred cows
